Doç. Dr. Lütfü SAVAŞ

Assoc. Dr. Lütfü Savaş was born in 1965 in the village of Dağdüzü, in the Yayladağı district of Hatay, and completed his primary, secondary and high school education in Antakya. He entered Eskişehir Anadolu University Faculty of Medicine in 1984 and graduated in 1990. He worked as a general practitioner in the institutions affiliated to the Ministry of Justice in Kayseri Develi and Balıkesir Burhaniye in 1990-96. In 1996, he started his specialization training at Istanbul Okmeydanı SSK Training and Research Hospital, Department of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology, and became a specialist in 2000. In the same year, he entered Baskent University Adana Training and Research Hospital as a faculty member and undertook important duties in the establishment of the hospital's Microbiology Laboratory. In 2002, he returned to his hometown Hatay to take part in the establishment of Mustafa Kemal University Faculty of Medicine, where he assumed administrative duties as the founding deputy chief physician and Advisor to the Rector. Lütfü Savaş, who has many experiences and successes in academic and administrative fields, received the title of associate professor in 2007.

In order to provide more service to his fellow citizens and Antakya, Assoc. Dr. Lütfü Savaş was elected mayor by receiving the vote of the majority of the people, and during his presidency, he provided many services in the fields of education, arts, sports, social and cultural areas, as well as services related to infrastructure and superstructure.

Lütfü Savaş, who was a candidate under the umbrella of the Republican People's Party for the newly established Hatay Metropolitan Municipality in the 2014 local elections, was elected as the Mayor of the Metropolitan Municipality with the great support of the people. Renewing this success in the 2019 local elections, he was elected as the Mayor of the Metropolitan Municipality for the second time.

Lütfü Savaş, who was elected Mayor for three consecutive terms, also contributed to making Hatay a sports city, and brought Turkey's second largest sports complex to the city. Some of his achievements in sports; The establishment of the Aba Wrestling Federation, the holding of the International Aba Wrestling competitions in Hatay, the establishment of the Hatay Metropolitan Municipality Women's Basketball Team, and then winning the Presidential Cup twice, and the promotion of Hatayspor to the Super League in 2020.

Mr. Savaş also hosted Hatay's EXPO-2021 organization in 2017 and earned the city the title of UNESCO World City of Gastronomy.

The wife of Lütfü Savaş, who is married and has two children, is a faculty member at Hatay Mustafa Kemal University, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Public Health.
